“The moretta mask, reserved exclusively for women, was a 18th century Venetian mask that was round and covered with black velvet. Also known as the ‘muta’ because you had to hold it in your mouth with a button and there- fore the wearer could not speak. Women were seen as mysterious and attractive when they would wear it. They would remain silent and anonymous. Did times change to let women speak and show emotions through means of seduction?” Marion Coindeau.
